Order that warrant be obtained for Joseph Madely coming into the canal without the owner and steersman name on the barge. Also for giving a false account of his tonnage of coal.

At a Meeting of the Committee held by Adjournment at the George Inn in Stroud on Wednesday the 5^th day of November 1777
Present: Thomas Baylis, Durley Wintle, Fream Arundell, Benjamin Grazebrook, Robert Ellis, John Hollings.
Read the Minutes of the last Meeting.
Samuel Stephens's Bill to be paid, & Edward Edge & Man to go and Collect what Bricks remain at the Hock Ditch, and at the Culvert, which M^r Stephens will bring to the Bristol Road.
John Pashleys Bill, containing many articles overcharged, reffered to the next Meeting, when he is required to attend, and his Bill to be further enquired into and that a measure be taken of the Lock Gates at Bristol Road and at West Field ~~ and that an Acc^t be taken of all the Money paid him for a twelve Month past.
Ordered that M^r R^d Davis be paid £80 in part of his Bill.
Ordered the Canal to be drawn out immediately for Clearing the Lock at West Field.
It is the unanimous Opinion of the Committee that M^r Lingard be discharged for refusing to Survey in such manner as he was directed, and that the Clerk do Settle with him accordingly, at the Rate of two Guineas per Week during his attendance. ~~ And he his hereby discharged.
Ordered that Sam^l Smith do Superintend and take a particular Account of the Work done by the Team.
The piece of Land called the Marle Pitts, is purchased of M^r R^d Pettat at the Value of One hundred & Twenty Eight pounds, to be Conveye'd as soon as Convenient.
M^r Andrews has agreed to exchange with the Proprietors for the above Land purchased of M^r Pettat.
M^r Jepson has declared to the Committee that the Corporation of Gloucester has given M^r Harris power to treat with the Committee of the Navigation & are Content with the same value they give to others having Lands at or near the premises in Question.
Ordered a Bill to be drawn on the Treasurer for the Sum of Four Hundred Pounds.
M^r Jepson is desired to retain M^r Morgan for the Proprietors of the Navigation.
Ordered that a Warrant be obtained for Jos: Madely for coming into the Canal without the owner of Steerman's Name on the Barge, also for a fraud in giving a false account of his Cargo of Coals paid for Tonnage to the Proprietors of the Navigation.
Adjourned this Meeting to Thursday the 14^th Instant at four o Clock in the afternoon at the George Inn in Stroud.
