Summary

Rev. Pettat will not allow the canal to be cut through the graveyard at St Cyr’s Church until an equivalent piece of land can be purchased in exchange. Some of Mrs Ball’s orchard might be suitable.
Huts built near Mr Phillip’s bridge must be taken down.
Wharf at Bristol Road to be fenced to stop Samuel Collin’s illegal use.
Cutters to use the porcupine in the puddling.
Thomas Taylor to engage the trows in their return from Bath to freight with his stone and deliver it in our canal at Chippenham Platt.
Mr Trewin to be paid 3 guineas a week, and 2 guineas travel expenses.

At a Meeting of the Committee held by Adjournment at the George Inn at Stroud on Thursday the 5^th Day of March 1778
Present: Joseph Wathen, John Hollings, James Winchcombe, Robert Ellis, William Knight, Richard Bigland, Thomas Baylis.
Read the Minutes of the Last Meeting.
M^r Kings Acc^t of Damages to be Settled when we have an opportunity of Seeing him.
The Conveyance of M^r Reddalls Land is executed, and retured from M^r Lane.
Ben^m Pashley have begun Sheeting the Gates; Ordered that he continue the Sheeting till the whole is fininshed.
John Gleaves has given Notice to Sam^l Collins to desist from Landing any more Coals on the waste at Chippenhams Platt.
The Order Continued to have the Slagg removed to the side of the Canal.
The Soft Bricks are removed from out of the Eastington Lock.
M^r Ellis Reported that he had waited on the Rev^d M^r Pettat in regard to Stonehouse Church Yard, but could not obtain his Consent, till an equivalent Quantity of Land can be purchased in exchange; Ordered that Mess^rs Wathen & Hollings be desired to waite on M^r C: Gardner next Tuesday morning to treat with him for a part of M^rs Balls Orchard for the purpose of enlargeing the s^d Church Yard, and also to propose to him to exchange a Quantity of M^rs Balls Land for the Rev^d M^r Pettats Gleabe.
M^r B: Grazebrook has Nicked out the Land for a Bason in M^r Webbs Lower Meadow.
M^r Barnard has been wrote to in regard to the Soft bricks, but no answer received.
John Gleaves produced an Account of the Cutting etc by John Beswick.
Ordered that the Building of a House for Sam^l Smith be postponed as those Bricks are wanted for the Locks.
Ordered that John Gleaves do give Notice to have the two last Hutts that have been built near Edmund Phillips Esq^r Bridge taken down, and that no more be erected without leave from the Committee.
Information being made that Sam^l Collins carrys his Coals thr'o our Wharf at the Bristol Road; Ordered that John Gleaves do give Notice to our Labouring Carpenter, to gett the posts & Railes erected to fence in our Wharf by this Day fortnight.
Ordered that John Gleace do give Notice to the Cutters to use the porcupine in the Puddling ~~ and that the s^d John Gleaves do direct the breadth and Depth of the Puddle Gutters, and that the measure be paid for Puddling agreeable to the Breadth as he shall Direct.
Our Surveyor particularly to attend to See that none but perfect good Bricks are used. ~~ That the Stone for the Lime is of the proper Quality, and none to be burnt, but such as is intirely fit for the purpose. To inspect the Masonary and Bricklaying; also the Puddling to be directed in regard to the breadth, and the using of the Porcupine.
Ordered that Tho^s Taylor, Servant to M^r Couch, do engage the Trows in their return from Bath to Freight with his Stone, and deliver it in our Canal at Chippenhams Platt, at the Rte of two Shillings per Ton.
Ordered a Bill to be Drawn on the Treasurer for the Sum of Three Hundred Pounds.
Agreed with M^r Tho^s Fruen to inspect every part of the work at Three Guineas per Week as long as he is employ'd by us, to commence on the 25^th February last, and to allow him Two Guineas for his Expences down.
Adjounred this Meeting to Monday the 16^th Instant at 4 o Clock in the afternoon at the George Inn in Stroud.
