William Beard, lock keeper, saved life of Humphrey Hodges, taking him out of canal apparently dead and recovering him. Clerk to pay him £2 12s 6d as reward

At a Meeting of the Committee of the Stroudwater Navigation held on Board the Company's Barge on Tueday the 12^th of June 1792
Present: Nathaniel Winchcombe, Benj^n Grazebrook, John Hollings, Rich^d Pettat, Henry Burgh.
Ordered that the Railes round the Piece of Land at Dudbridge now rented by M^r Keene be repair'd.
Ordered that the side of the Bridge adjoining the Lock House at C Platt be rais'd three Courses of Bricks. Also that the Wing Walls of the Lower Lock at C Platt be repair'd.
Ordered that the Lock Gates be examined and repair'd as soon as possible.
Ordered that the Company's Barge be taken to Brimscombe to be fresh Graved.
Satisfactory prooffs having been given that last Night Will^m Beard our Lockkeeper saved the Life of Humphrey Hodges by taking him out of the Canal apparently dead, and recovering him, Ordered that our Clerk do pay him the sum of £2..12..6 as a reward for the same in pursuance of an Order made at the General Meeting of 13^th April 1790.
Adjourned this Meetng to Monday the 20^th of Aug^t next at 2 o'Clock in the afternoon at the George Inn in Stroud.
