Circular letter from Mr Hardy, clerk to meeting of delegates from canal companies at Manchester. Meeting adjourned to 7 February at Crown and Anchor Tavern in London. Mr J J Wathen to attend meeting to represent objections of Committee to proposed tax.
William Beard reported that John Simms had lowered bank of canal at Framilode. Clerk to require him to raise bank to former height.

At a Meeting of the Committee of the Stroudwater Navigation held at the George Inn in Stroud on Wednesday the 25^th Jan^y 1797
Present: Rev^d W^m Ellis, Benj^n Grazebrooke, Sam^l Wathen, Jos^h Grazebrooke, Nath^l Wathen, Jn^o Allaway, Rich^d Bigland, Sam^l Smith, Rowles Scudamore.
Read the Minutes of the last Meeting.
Our Clerk reported that the banks at M^r Hoggs have been repaired, but for the satisfaction of the Committee M^r Ellis & M^r Grazebrook are requested to inspect the same.
M^r Wathen & M^r Grazebrook reported that they attended at the Meeting at Newport, agreeably to the request of the Committee Meeting of the 14^th of December and that nothing arose there repugnant to the Interests of our Canal.
The draft clauses to be inserted in the proposed bill of the Glocester and Berkley Canal Company being received from Mess^rs Scott & Smith, Sollicitors in London.
Ordered that our Clerk do immediatly return the same to them, with the observations of the Committee, requesting that they will forward them without delay to the Sollicitor of the Glocester and Berkley Canal Company.
A circular Letter having been received from M^r Hardy, Clerk to a meeting of delegates from different Canal Companys, to a Meeting at Manchester advertising us of an Adjournment of the meeting to the 7^th of Feb next at the Crown and Anchor Tavern in London.
Ordered that our Clerk to write a Letter to M^r J I Wathen requesting his attendance at such Meeting as our delegate, to represent the objections of the Committee to the proposed tax on Inland Navigation.
Our Servant W^m Beard reported that Jn^o Simms had lowered the bank of the Canal at Framiload. Ordered that our Clerk do immediatly write to him a Letter requiring him to raise the same again to its former height without loss of time.
Adjourn'd this Meeting to Tuesday the 7^th of March next at 3 o'Clock in the afternoon at the George Inn in Stroud.
