Mr J J Wathen's report on meetings of delegates of very large majority of canal companies in England, 25 January. Measures for effectual opposition to meditated tax on goods carried.
Mr Pashley and Samuel Baylis, second clerk, dismissed. Capable clerk to reside in house occupied by Mr Pashley at Framilode.

M^r J I Wathen informed the Committee of his having attended various meetings of delegates from Inland Navigation Companies assembled at the Crown & Anchor Tavern in London in pursuance of the requisition of the Committee of 25^th Jan^y last. The Associated delegated represent a very large majority of the Canal Companies in England and are taking measures for rendering effectual their Opposition to the mediated Tax upon Goods carried upon Inland Navigations.
It is the Opinion of the Committee that the Companys Interests require that they should retain in their Service a capable Clerk to reside in the House now occupied by Jn^o Pashley at Framilad to discharge the duties now intrusted to the said Jn^o Pashley and Samuel Baylis the Companies second Clerk. And in as much as the Committee are of opinion that the Companys Interests call upon them to dismiss from their Offices the second Clerk and the said Jn^o Pashley.
It is therefore Ordered that M^r Hains do give notice to M^r Sam^l Baylis our second Clerk, and to Jn^o Pashley that they are discharged from the Service of the Company from and after the 1^st day of July next, and that Jn^o Pashle do yield up to the Company the Possession of their House, and premises, at Framiload on or before the 1^st day of July next, and the individuals composing this Committee will enquire for a proper Person to act as the Companys second Clerk.
Ordered that Will^m Addies Bill be paid.
Ordered a Bill be drawn on the Treasurer for Sum of Foun Hundred forty seven pounds eighteen Shillings & three pence for the use of the Navigation.
