Mr Wathen attended sessions at Frocester. Penitent behaviour of persons concerned in damage to bank of canal. Agreement to restore banks, never to commit offence in future. Magistrates request to the Committee not to persevere in prosecution complied with.
Present sluices not sufficient to draw off water from lower level in time of flood. Alterations to be made during summer.
At a Meeting of the Committee of the Stroudwater Navigation held at the Committee room at Walbridge on Tuesday the 5^th March 1799
Present: Sam"l Wathen, Nath^l Wathen, Rev^d W^m Ellis, Rowles Scudamore, Benj^n Grazebrooke, Nath^l Jones.
Read the Minutes of the last Meeting.
Continued the Order respecting the Boat House and the Shed at Tho^s Lewis's House, as well as for the building of a Boat agreeably to the Order of the last Meeting.
M^r Wathen reported that he had attended the Sessions at Frocester on the subject of the damages done to the Banks of the Canal, that in consequence of the persistent behaviour of the Persons concerned in the transaction their agreeing to restore the banks to a perfect State and promise never to commit the like offence in future, the Majistrates requested of the Committee not to persevere in their prosecution.
Resolved that the request of the Magistrates be complied with.
It having been represented to the Committee that the present Sluices are not sufficient to draw off the water from the lower Level in time of Flood, the Committee are of Opinion that such alterations as on a view may appear necessary should be made the approaching Summer.
