Josh Chapman on 11 February carried cargo of timber, 867 feet which he declared to be 600 feet. Paid for smaller quantity. Error made by daughter unintentionally. Additional tonnage to be paid without fine.
Mr Knee to carry bricks and sand for erection of Messrs. Clarke’s sawing mill at Bowbridge.
Stoppage for building the bridge at Whitminster to start 7 April.
Letter from Messrs. Coullas & Jones requiring use of wharf and weighing machine at Dudbridge free of expense. Resolved that portion of wharf be allotted, use of weighing machine to be paid for.
At a Meeting of the Committee of the Stroudwater Navigation held at the Committee Room at Wallbridge on Wednesday the 12^th day of March 1856
Present: M^r C Hawker, M^r Rich^d Martin Chairman, J H Warman, H^y Harris, W^m Fryer, F Eycott, G H A Beard, T C Croome, C Hooper.
It was reported that Jos^h Chapman on 11 Feb^y carried a Cargo of Timber consisting of 867 feet which he declared to be 600 feet only & paid for the smaller quantity. Ordered that inasmuch as the Committee of Glouceser & Berkeley Canal (who gave the information) were convinced that the erroneous statement was unintentionally made by his Daughter & not be himself Jos^h Chapman be charged the additional Tonnage without Fine.
M^r Knee applied for a reduction of Tonnage on a quantity of Bricks & Sand to be carried to Bowbridge for the erection of a Sawing Mill for Mess^rs Clarke.
Ordered that he be allowed to carry the Bricks for the above mentioned purpose only at 10^d per thousand and Sand at the same equivalent rate that is to say 3 Tons for 10^d. Ordered that the Tonnage on Sand carried & landed at Wallbridge Wharf be fixed at 4^d per Ton. Ordered that the Stoppage of the Navigation for the rebuilding of the Bridge at Whitminster do commence on & from the 7^th April next subject to the convenience of the Gloucester & Berkeley and T & S Canal C^o & that M^r Driver do communicate with the Officers of those Companies accordingly.
Resolved that the usual Half Yearly Meeting of this Company be held on Wednesday the 23^d April next at 3 O clock & that Monthly Meeting do take place at 2 O clock on that day & that M^r Partridge do give the required notices in the usual way.
A letter from Mess^rs Coultas & Jones was read requiring the use of the Wharf & Weighing Machine at Dudbridge free of expense. Resolved that a portion of the Wharf be allowed but the use of the Weighing machine must be paid for as usual.
