Petition against Thames & Severn Canal Junction Bill presented to House of Commons. In Company’s interest for Bill to be prosecuted. Solicitor and subcommittee given power to act as they deem expedient.

Verbatim text

At a Special General Meeting of the Proprietors of the Stroudwater Navigation held at the Committee Room at Wallbridge on Tuesday the 27^th day of February 1866 for the purpose of electing two Members of the Committee and also for general business.
Present: M^R J H Warman, S^l Phipps, C H Fisher, T M Croome, J T Fisher, H H Wilton, G H A Beard, W W Kearsey, J C Hallewell, F S Thornton.
Proposed by M^r Warman & seconded by M^r Beard that M^r Wilton be elected a Member of the Committee.
M^r Wilton was unaminously elected.
The following Gentlemen were also duly proposed and elected to fill up the Committee: Mess^rs C Hawker, T Marling, T S Thornton and S Phipps.
M^r James King of Chippenham Plat attended the Meeting to gain the consent of this Company to transfer the Lease of his House and premises belonging to the Company to M^r Rich^d Williams on the 25^th day of March next.
Resolved that he be allowed to do so and that M^r Williams be accepted as Tenant from that date on the usual terms, and that an agreement be prepared to that effect.
M^r Warman reported that the Petition against the Thames & Severn Canal Junction Bill approved at the last Meeting has been presented to the House of Commons.
Resolved that with a view to protect the Interest of this Company it is expedient that the Petition should be presented and that our Solicitor be therefore instructed to adopt such measures as may be deemed expedient either by appearing by Counsel or otherwise and that a Sub-Committee be appointed to assist him on the occasion with power to any two of them to act in such manner as they may deem expedient wither by the withdrawal of the Petition on terms offered or otherwise.
