Summary

C Cox, master of vessel ‘Trader’, owner Mr G Hazle, passed through Pike Lock without opening both gates and towed vessel with two donkeys abreast on 10 April. Fine of 5s or full penalties enforced.
Gas Co. required to lower gas pipes on towing path near Ryeford Mill for repair of path.
Raising of road at Ryeford to be left to Messrs. Hooper and Beard without injury to Company’s wharf.

At a Meeting of the Committee of the Stroudwater Navigation held at the Committee Room at Wallbridge on Thursday the 26^th day of April 1866
Present: M^r J H Warman, F S Thornton, S Phipps, W W Kearsey Chairman, C Hawker, T M Croome, J H Beard, C Hooper, T Marling.
The various Accounts Books and Vouchers signed by M^r Coley the Auditor and certified to be correct were produced examined and passed,
The Treasurer's Book was produced examined and signed.
Mess^rs Kearse Croome and C H Fisher reported to this Meeting the result of the opposition to the Thames and Severn Navigation Railway Bill, which had passed the Committee of the House of Commons.
Resolved that this Company oppose the Bill in the House of Lords, unless and until satisfactory terms of arrangement can be made, and fully authorise the above named Gentlemen, or any two of them, to deal with such opposition, and to make any terms or arrangement that they may think desirable with the Promoters of the Bill.
Resolved that the Clerk reply to the letter of the Rev^d N M J Bowles of Framilode offering to sell this Company a Blacksmith's Shop adjoining the Ship Inn, thanking him for his letter, and stating that the C^o are not aware of any circumstances making it desirable for them to purchase.
M^r Peyton reported that C Cox Martin of the Vessel Trader belonging to M^r G Hazle passed through the Pike Lock without opening both Gates & also towed the vessel with 2 Donkeys abreast on the 10^th inst. Resolved that he pay a fine of 5^s/ or full penalties to be enforced.
Ordered that a Stoppage of this Canal for repairs take place from 7 o'clock AM on 4^th June to the night of Saturday the 9^th of that Month.
Ordered that the Clerk do write to the Gas C^o requiring them to lower their Gas pipe in the Towing path near Ryeford Mill so that the Towing Path may be put into proper repair.
Ordered that the following Bill be paid: £ s d

Resolved that the question of raising the Road at Ryeford be left to Mess^rs Hooper & Beard on the part of this Company to ascertain if it can be done without injury to this Company's Wharf.
