Summary

Complaints that Stroud Gas Company allow their gas tar to run into canal and foul the water. Solicitor to write to them.

At a Meeting of the Committee of Stroudwater Navigation held at the Committee Room at Wallbridge on Thursday January 3^d 1867
Present: M^r S^l Phipps, W W Kearsey Chairman, J C Hallewell, G H A Beard, T M Croome, H H Wilton, F S Thornton, T Marling, C Hooper, C H Fisher.
A Letter was read from M^r F Horne, who tunbled into the Canal, in consequence of the Swing Bridge at Lodgemore being blown open on the 3^d of December, claiming damages 4^£..16^s,,0^d.
Resolved that the Committee see no reason to alter their decision passed at their last Meeting, which M^r Horne attended, that they did not admit their liability to make any compensation.
M^r Kearsey, the Solicitor, produced and read Counsel's Opinion (M^r Macnamara's) relative to the right of the Wheatenhurst Highway Board to raise the road at Ryeford Wharf -- this Opinion contended that the Highway Board had no right to make such alteration.
Resolved that this Committee whilst desirous of meeting the views of the Highway Board, as far as possible, much regret that they cannot alter their determination with respect to the proposed alteration, as they consider it would be prejudicial to the interests of their Company.
It appearing that the Stonehouse and Nailsworth Railway Company have erected a shed against the Boundary Wall of the Stonehouse Wharf, the roof of which overhangs the Wall, and that, that Company have also taken, and use the Bricks and coping stones of the old Stable Wall belonging to this Company,
Resolved that the Railway Company have notice to remove the part of the roof complained of, and to pay for the bricks and coping stones taken.
Complaints having been made that the Stroud Gas Company suffer their Gas Tar to run into the Canal, and foul the water,
Resolved that the Solicitor write to them to desire that this does not occur in future;
