Meeting with Thames and Severn Canal Co having failed, as did one between their solicitors. all outstanding issues are remitted to the position which existed before the meetings. An early opportunity is to be taken for considering and adopting a course in the interest of this navigation.
Mr Z Whiting granted permission to transfer his tenancy at Eastington to Mr T Clark of Chalford.
Mr Clegram granted permission to put up two gates across the towing path near Whitminster Lock during the time the Gloucester & Berkeley Canal Co extend their weir: the gates to be removed when the work is completed.
Joseph Hewer, captain of boat Victory, find 5s for wilfully strapping his boat to the top gate at the Pike Lock, Eastington after being told not to do so.
Stroudwater Board of Health permitted to use a pen near the warehouse at Wallbridge upon payment of £3 a year.
A letter from Mr Waddy, secretary to the Gloucester & Berkeley Canal Co, was read asking for rates of tonnage on various parts of this navigation.
Clerk reported that Messrs Davies and Sons had commenced to take water from the canal near the Stonehouse swing bridge.
Committee Meeting held at Wallbridge on Thursday the 15^th day of June 1876 @ 3,o,clock pm
Present: Mr G H A Beard Chairman, Mr E C Littlem Major C H Fisher, Mr W W Kearsey, Mr J T Fisher, Mr S Phipps, Mr T Marling.
[37] Proposed by Mr T Marling and seconded by Mr E C Little that the following Resolution be adopted:
That is appears the Meeting of the Committee of this Navigation and of the Thames and Severn Navigation with the view on the part of this Navigation to a more equitable adjustment of Tolls on the traffic passing between the two Canals, And also a subsequent meting between Mr Croome on the part of this Navigation and Mr Dorington on the part of the other Navigation held with the same view, have both altogether failed, and that therefore such questions and also the question of the insufficient repair and condition of the Thames and Severn Navigation are remitted to the position that existed before such meeting.
Resolved that an early opportunity be taken for considering and adopting such a course as may be considered advisable in the interest of this Navigation,
[30] Mr Z Whiting the occupier of he Co house and wharf at Eastington applied for permission to transfer his tenancy to Mr T Clark of Chalford, upon the same terms and conditions he took the same on the 19^th day of September 1873 (see Minute Bool No 6 page 143).
Resolved, that the same be granted and the matter placed in the hands of the Cos Solicitor to prepare the necessary agreement.
[20] A letter from Mr Clegray was read asking permission to put up two gates across the Towing path near the Whitminster Lock, during the time the Gloucester & Berkley Canal Company extend their weir; The gates to be removed when the work is completed.
Resolved, that the same be granted.
[18] The Clerk reported that on the 1^st day of June Joseph Hewer Captains of boat "Victory" did Willfully strap his boat to the hand rail of the top gate at the Pike Lock Eastington, after having been told not to do so.
Ordered, that he pay a fine of 5/- (without prejudice) or the full penalty be enforced,
[30] Resolved, that the Stroud Local Board of Health have permission to use a pen near the Warehouse at Wallbridge during the pleasure of the Committee upon payment at the rate of £3 per annum commencing from the 24^th day of June 1876, and that the Clerk send a copy of this minute to Mr E Witchell Clerk of the Local Board.
[20] A letter from Mr Waddy, Secretary to the Gloucester & Berkley Canal Co was read asking for rates of Tonnage on various parts of this Navigation.
Ordered that the Clerk send him the same.
[30] The Clerk reported that Messrs Davies & Sons had commenced to take water from the Canal near the Stonehouse swing Bridge as per permission granted in Resolution passed on the 21^st January 1875 See Minute Book No 6 page 173.
