Summary

Inspections of the canal between Wallbridge and Eastington showed canal and works in efficient working order.
Mr W H Marling accepted that the withy trees at the top of the Ocean mark the extent of the Canal Company’s property
Inspection of the canal from Stonehouse Ocean to Framilode found that the stores, wage and other books, shops, etc, at the Eastington Canal Yard were in good order.
Messrs Snape and Peyton explained the working of the canal with respect to the tickets, books, etc, to Messrs Beard and Marling at the Junction office.
Clerk and Mr Beard pick out and buy 6 oak and 3 elm trees from Mr F H Morgan of Cambridge: oak 3/6d per cubic foot and elm 1/7d per cubic foot, delivered to Eastington Canal Yard.
Clerk to meet Mr Beard and Mr Stanton at Stonehouse Ocean to arrange the boundary line and have posts put in and marked S.W.N.
As requested by the Stroud Brewery Co, the rent of the Ship Inn, Wallbridge to be reduced to £40 p.a. from the 29 September.
William Davies, captain of the barge Endeavour, charged 13s for damaging the outside bottom gates of the Bristol Road Lock, and 10s fine for wasting water from the pound above the lock.
Works recommended to be done: the outside boundary wall at Dudbridge Wharf to be repaired and stable floor relaid; new steps at the Double locks; a few piles and puddling on the length of canal between Stonehouse Swing Bridge and the Brick Bridge near Stonehouse Wharf.
Road leading to Mr Barnard’s property at Dudbridge Wharf was used on 2 and 3 of September to show the Company’s ownership.
Pipe laid from Ebley Mill into the Canal near Mr Gyde’s Swing Bridge which has been in over 20 years, by permission, but no rent paid.

Committee Meeting held at Wallbridge on Thursday the 16^th day of September 1880 @ 3,o,clock pm
Present: Mr G H A Beard Chairman, Mr C H Hooper, Mr S Phipps, Mr J T Fisher, Mr E C Little, Mr Jas Howard. M^r J T Stanton.
[45] Ordered that the next ordinary Committee Meeting be held on Thursday the 18^th day of October next @ 3,o,clock pm and the General Half yearly Meeting @ 4,o,clock on the same day.
_Canal Inspection_
[42] On the 30^th August the portion of Canal between Wallbridge and Eastington was Inspected by Mr J T Stanton and a written report sent by him to the Chairman Mr Beard, stating that he found the Canal and works in connection therewith in thoroughly efficient working order, and the Cottages and other Buildings in good repair.
On the 1^st September the same portion of Canal was Inspected by Mr Beard and Mr W H Marling who found the Canal and works in good working order and the Cottages * other Buildings in good order.
Mr Marling's attention was called to the boundary of the Ocean, and it was pointed out to him, that is was arranged with the late Mr Thomas Marling that the withy trees at the top of the Ocean should mark the extent of the Canal Company's property, and that the Company lop the trees to maintain their right to the land. Mr Marling expressed himself satisfied with this arrangement.
On the 2^nd September that portion of the Canal from Stonehouse Ocean to Framilode was Inspected by Mr Beard and Mr Marling. The Stores, wage and other books, Shops, etc, at the Canal yard, Eastington were inspected and found in good order. The locks, Bridges and Buildings were found in good repair.
The General System of working the Canal with respect to the tickets, books, etc, was explained to Mr Beard and Mr Marling by Mr Snape and Mr Peyton at the Junction office.
[39] The Clerk was ordered to buy 6 oak and 3 Elm trees pointed out by Mr Beard & himself, belonging to Mr F H Morgan of Cambridge, Oak 3/6 per cube and for Elm 1/7 per cube foot delivered at Eastington Canal yard.
_Stonehouse Ocean_
[50] The question as to the boundary of the Ocean having been brought forward and no definite understanding having hitherto arrived at, Resolved that the Clerk meet Mr Beard and Mr Stanton on the spot to arrange the boundary line and have posts put in and marked S W N.
[51] The Stroud Brewery Co having applied for a reduction of rent of the Ship Inn Wallbridge,
Resolved that the rent be reduced to £40 per annum commencing from the 29^th September inst, and that the Clerk endorse the Leases and sign the same.
[18] The foreman reported that William Davies Captain of the Barge "Endeavour" did on the 23^rd day of August last run his barge carelessly into the outside bottom gates of the Bristol Road Lock, knocking the gate out of step and doing damage to the extent of 13/- he also ran water from the pound above the lock for 3/4 of an hour. Ordered that he pay the 13/- charged for putting the gate in working order again, and also a fine of 10/- for wasting water, in default of payment to be summoned and the full penalty enforce. See Act of Parliament page 113, clause 68.
The following works were recommended to be done (viz):
[29] The outside boundary walls at Dudbridge wharf to be repaired and Stable floor relaid.
[29] New Steps at the Double Locks to enable the Bargemen to get quicker on the lock side to strap their vessels to the post.
[29] The length of Canal Bank between the Stonehouse Swing Bridge and the Brick Bridge near Stonehouse Wharf requires a few piles and puddling.
[28] Mr Stanton thought it advisable that the Company ownership over the Road leading to Mr Barnard property at Dudbridge wharf should be maintained. The Road was therefore used on the 2^nd and 3^rd of September,
Mr Stanton also calls attention to a pipe laid from Ebley Mill to the Canal near Mr Gydes Swing Bridge, has been in 20 years by permission, No rent paid.
