Summary

Committee Meeting held at Wallbridge on Tuesday the 14^th day of October 1893 @ 3pm
Present: Mr C H Hooper Chairman, Mr H H Mills, Sir W H Marling Bart, Mr W^m Davies, Mr E P Little, Mr Jno Howard.
The various accounts, books and vouchers signed by the Auditor and certified to be correct were produced and pased.
The Treasurers Book was produced and signed by the Chairman.
The sub-Committee met (as arranged by the Minute of 19^th Sept) on the 5^th inst & decided on the Maximum rates & tolls to be inserted in the Schedule to be submitted to the Commission on Canal Rates. The date when these will come before the Commission has not yet been fixed. In view of the possibility of this occurring before the next Meeting of this Committee the Solicitor to the Company Mr H H Mills was authorized to employ Counsel at his discretion.
The Surveyor reported that the new Weighbridge at Dudbridge wharf has been erected, and is duly working. The Cost (above the amount payable to Messrs Bartlett & Co of £35) for erecting, etc, which amounted to some £7 had been practically covered by the sale of the old machine and the value of surplus materials.
A letter from Messrs Strachan & Co of the 13^th inst was read, stating that they find it will not answer their purpose to continue the use of the water from the Canal an that the offer of terms by this Company is declined by them The Clerk was instructed to present a charge for 3 Months at the rate of £15 per annum for the period of trial, adding eight shillings for wages expended in taking levels, etc, on behalf of Messrs Strachan & Co.
Mr W J Snape having completed twenty one years Service as Clerk & Surveyor to this Company, to the full satisfaction of the Committee was asked to accept a gratuity of Ten Guineas with an expression of their sense of his zealous and efficient discharge of his duties and his devotion to the interests of the Shareholders.
