Committee Meeting held at Wallbridge on Tuesday the 16^th day of April 1898 @ 3 o'clock pm
Present: Mr C H Hooper Chairman, Mr H Hamilton Mills Solicitor, Mr W J Stanton, Mr E P Little, Mr A B Hooper, Sir W H Marling Bart, Mr W Davies.
The various Accounts, Books and Vouchers signed by the Auditor and certified to be correct were produced and passed.
The Treasurers Book was produced, examined and signed by the Chairman.
A notice from Mr T Clark to give up the House and Wharf at Eastington on Sept 29^th was read, also applications for the same from C Pegler of Stonehouse and J L Butt of Stroud. It appearing that the latter had the more intimate knowledge of Canal business and was likely to make a satisfactory tenant of the premises, the Clerk was instructed to inform him that his application had obtained the preference of the Committee.
Notice to give up the Ship Inn Wallbridge, was received from the tenants Messrs King & Worsey. It was decided that before offering it elsewhere, the refusal be given to the Nailsworth Brewery Company on the same terms, viz: £40 per annum, and a seven year lease.
It was agreed to allow the Stroud Gas Company to use the Company's Mud Boat and the assistance of men, for the laying of their new 'Gas Mains' under the Towing Path, on the same terms as in 1853, when they laid the existing pipes.
It was resolved that ½% (pr Cent) Interest received from the Stroud Conservative Benefit Society in connexion with the Guarantee by the Company of one third of the £4500, borrowed from the Society by the Thames and Severn Canal Trust, be placed to the credit of the Reserve Fund.
The Guarantee to be given by the Sharpness New Docks and Gloucester and Birmingham Navigation C^o and this Company to Lloyds Bank L^td for the sum of £18000 with interest at 4% to be advanced to the Thames and Severn Canal Trust for the completion of the Restoration Works was produced and ordered to be sealed. The Seal was affixed accordingly.
