Stroudwater Navigation C^o.
Stroud Oct. 31^st. 1904
Sir.
[Shallow Lock] At the recent Meeting of our Stroudwater Navigation Committee, the work lately done at the ''Shallow Lock' under your direction was referred to, and I was glad to report of it as very satisfactory, which the Chairman and Sir W H Marling fully confirmed.
I told the Committee that it had been agreed between us to allow the winter to pass, and demonstrate by experience, how much the banks and towpath would really need to be raised, Eastwards, to secure the higher level in that 'pound', and this, and a final adjustment of the weirs, alone remained to complete the works that your Company originally undertook to carry out.
The Committee desired me to write to you as above, and I shall be glad to have a line from you confirming my statement, that such is the understanding between us.
I have sent Mr Waddy a Cheque for the A/c by the Committees direction,
Believe me, Dear Sir,
Yours faithfully,
W James Snape.

Dear Sir.
[Shallow Lock.] Whitminster Lock
In reply to your letter of the 31 ult. I confirm your view of the state of the case as regards this matter, merely remarking that the adjustment of the Frome weir referred to consists of 4" boards to be placed on top of the existing boards, omitted in consequence of the amount of leakage coming down this Pound from the Bristol Road Lock.
Yours truly
F A Jones.

[Gloucester Harbour Board.] The Committee decided to pay for the current year the contribution of £6 required by the Harbour Board, Gloucester, to March 25^th 1905.
