[1940 Oct] Committee Meeting held at Wallbridge on Wednesday the 16^th day of October 1940 @ 3 o'clock pm
Present: W R Bloxam, Henry R Hooper, G A Evans.
There being only three Members of the Committee present there was no quorum but there being some matters requiring immediate attention it was decided to proceed with them subject to confirmation by the next Committee.
Gloucester Corporation, Pipes crossing the Canal at Whitminster, Saul & Framilode
There was nothing to report.
Bristol Road Bridge, Damage
A letter from the Ocean Accident & Guarantee Corporation Ltd was read, after discussion the Chairman undertook to settle a reply.
Blunder Lock, Damage by enemy action
It was reported that the lock wall had been reinstated, and the construction of a new pair of upper Gates was in hand. The Clerk stated that he had had the assistance of M^r Hopson's stall and he had also engaged an extra carpenter.
Lockhouse at Eastington, Roof repairs
It was reported that M^r Hopson had carried out the necessary repairs which were satisfactory.
Wharfhuse at Wallbridge, M^r Lee, tenant, roof repairs
It was reported that in accordance with Minute of last Meeting necessary roof repairs has been carried out, also two chimneys had been repaired which were found to be in bad condition.
Lockhouse at Dudbridge, Home Defence
The Committee agreed to certain work proposed to be carried out by the Military.
Income Tax, Messrs Dudbridge & Sons - Seven years ended 5^th April 1940
The Clerk reported that he had as requested by Messrs Dudbridge & Sons signed a claim under date 8^th October 1940 prepared by them for repayment of any sums due to the Company.
Ministry of Transport, Greater use of Canals
A letter from the Ministry was read and the Chairman undertook to settle a reply, a further letter from the Ministry was read stating any works carried out by the Ministry which may affect Canal traffic should be reported to the Ministry.
Parklands Estate: Whitminster, Mrs Best, Agreement re taking water from the Canal
The Chairman stated that the Agreement with Mrs Best had been completed and paid for and a years rent paid.
Sperry Gyroscope C^o Ltd, Swing Bridge
The Chairman read a letter from the Company respecting the repair of the Swing Bridge over the Canal next their works at Stonehouse. The Clerk stated that on October 8^th he had me M^r Harris the assistant Manager at the Works. It was understood that the Company are proposing to carry out some work to the bridge. On the 9^th October a letter was sent to the Company to which they had not replied and in the absence of the information asked for the matter could not be dealt with. The Chairman undertook to settle a reply to the first letter.
