Summary

[1941 Oct] Committee Meeting held at Wallbridge on Wednesday the 15^th day of October 1941 @ 3 o'clock pm
Present: W R Bloxam, Henry R Hooper, G A Evans, G W Morton Ball.
There being only four Members of the Committee present there was no quorum but there being some matters requiring immediate attention it was decided to proceed with them subject to confirmation by the next Committee.
Bristol Road Bridge, Damage
The Clerk reported the receipt through the Company's Solicitors from the Ocean Accident Corporation Cheque for 53..17..6 and from the Motor Union Insurance C^oy Ltd Cheque for 125..8..6 making a total of £179..6..0
being the amount £155..6..0 of M^r Hopson's accounts for the repair of the bridge and also the cost of cleaning the Canal, and £24 the Navigations expenses. A Cheque £155..6..0 in Mr Hopson's favour had been drawn, and handed over to M^r Hopson by the Clerk.
Gashouse Bridge - Damage, Messrs Mowlem & Coy
In accordance with Minute of last Meeting a letter settled by the Chairman had been sent to Messrs Mowlem. In repl, Messrs Mowlem's Agent and the Clerk had, on the 24^th September last, inspected the bridge and towing path bank; it was understood that Messrs Mowlem would be undertaking the necessary repairs soon.
Hoffman Gloucester Ltd, Stonehouse, Pipe to Canal at Stonehouse.
A letter was read from the Ministry offering £150 per annum. The Committee decided to reply that base on other users a fair charge would be £200. The Chairman undertook to settle the letter.
Dudbridge Wharf, Messrs Jackson & Coy, Tenancy, M^r Wiggall
In view of the fact that a Notice of Requisition by the Stroud Urban District Council had been served on the Company, it was decided that the matter should stand over.
South-West Regional Canal Committee - Essential Works (General Provisions) Order 1941
In accordance with Minute of last Meeting a reply settled by the Chairman had been sent to the Chairman of the Regional Committee.
Canal Association
A memorandum from the Association was read.
Ministry of Works, Bristol
In reply to enquiry the Company had informed the Ministry that the waterway is not capable of accommodating any barges of 100 tons or more.
Severn Fishery Board, Weeding Canal
A letter from the Board was read it was decided to reply that the Company had no funds out of which to pay for the weeding of the waterway, the condition of which was much regretted by them.
Framilode Dam, Pumping, Gloucester Fire Brigade, Charges
With reference to a letter from the Brigade of the 8^th October las. On each occasion of pumping representatives of the Navigation were present including on one occasion a Member of the Committee, and that on neither of these occasions was more than one pump used, with one man to attend it while working. On this basis the Committee considered £5..5..0 be the appropriate feed and this amount they were prepared to pay. The Chairman undertook to settle a letter.
Stonehouse Wharf, Mr J J Joyner
An application to buy the Wharf sent in by M^r Joyner was considered and the Committee were prepared to consider an application to rent at £50..- per annum if his references were satisfactory and subject to a right of way over the Wharf, and the Company's usual Agreement being signed.
Pill Boxes at Whitminster and Westfield Eastington
An Agreement was signed by the Chairman at a rent of 2.6 a year in each case.
Dudbridge Wharfhouse, M^rs Shipton
A notice of her intention to deliver up the premises was discussed, and the Clerk was directed to see M^r Wiggall who has applied for the premises. It was noted that Mrs Shiptons notice did not conform with the condition of her tenancy Agreement.
Miss Haigh, Employment
The Clerk was directed to reply that the Company had no premises to offer her.
South Western Canal Committee
The Clerk produced the Minutes of a Meeting held 1^st October last.
South Western Canal Committee, Stop planks
A letter from the Chairman was read. The Clerk was instructed to inform M^r Lisle that a representative of the Ministry had called and he had gone through the details of the Canal with a plan, and he was satisfied that the provision of stop planks would be unnecessary.
Dudbridge Wharf, Requisition
A notice dated 14^th October 1941 from the Stroud U D Council on their decision to take possession of the Wharf at Dudbridge that day was produced, also a Form for completion but in view of Messrs Jackson's lease which expires on the 24^th January 1943 the completion of the form was left over awaiting a communication from Messrs Jackson.
Saul Bridge: Messrs Pickford's, Damage
The Clerk reported damage to this bridge by Messrs Pickford's on the 13^th October last hauling machinery for the South Gloucestershire Internal Drainage Board. It was decided to write to the Engineer of the Board, Mr G R Millard, Council Offices, Bristol, claiming compensation.
Stroud Gas & Coke Coy, Water Pipe to Canal at Downfield
The Chairman produced the draft Agreement which was being settled.
