Summary

Lockkeeper Smith asked for repairs to Eastington Lock House.
Admiralty offer of £60 p.a. for requisition of Stonehouse Wharf accepted.
Original Brewery Co to be sent letter calling condition of the wall separating the house and garden adjoining the Anchor Inn on Bath Road from property belonging to the Navigation.
Lockkeeper F Bassett has left Dudbridge Lock House and Company. H. S. Wiggall has been appointed to position for free occupation of Lock House. Some repairs to be made to house.
Gloucester Rural District Council’s inspector complained about smell arising from weeds in canal at Newton. Suggested that County Analyst be contacted to suggest chemical suitable for removing weeds.

[1942 Sept] Committee Meeting held at Wallbridge on Wedneday the 16^th day of September 1942 @ 3 o'clock pm
Present: W R Bloxam, Henry R Hooper, R J C Little, G A Evans.
There being only four Members of the Committee present there was no quorum but there being some matters requiring immediate attention it was decided to proceed with them subject to confirmation by the next Committee.
Gashouse Bridge and Canal Bank
Reported that the banks had been repaired. Cost of the work not yet ascertained.
Canal at Easington Lockhouse
Lockkeeper Smith have asked for certain repairs to be done to the interior of the Lockhouse the Committee decided to instruct M^r Hopson to distemper two rooms downstairs repaint the woodwork and repair ceiling in the passage to the front door.
Stroud Water Board, Water pipe in Towing path at Stonehouse
Reported that the pipe had been laid. The Chairman stated that the Agreement was ready for completion, it would require the Seal of the Company to be attached thereto.
Canal at Bond's Mill, Stonehouse, Culvert
The Clerk reported that the small leakage to the Manhole from the Canal was passing to the Frome through the Culvert.
Stonehouse Wharf, Admiralty Requisition
The Chairman read a letter under date the 11 September from the Admiralty Lands Officer of 2 Portland Place, Bath, confirming the terms of compensation provisionally agreed in respect to the Stonehouse Wharf namely £60 per annum as from the 23^rd July 1942 payable on the usual quarter days. The Clerk was instructed to accept the terms.
Property at Framilode, Water Supply
The Gloucester Corporation - the Water Authority - had suggested that the Company should appoint a contractor and they would go into the matter with him. M^r Hopson had been asked to send in an estimate.
Wallbridge Warehouse, Side Door
The Clerk reported that an old door out of stock had been fixed by the Company's staff.
Wharfhouse at Wallbridge, Wall, Cheltenham Original Brewery Coy
The Chairman had settled a letter for the Clerk to send to the Brewery Company calling their attention to the condition of the wall separating the house and garden adjoining the "Anchor Inn" in the Bath Road, Stroud, from the property belonging to the Navigation stating that the wall is bulging with the result that it is causing damage to the lean-to shed erected on the Navigations property and is dangerous. The Brewery Company telephoned on the 15^th September that they had not received the Navigation's letter of the 28^th July last and stated that their Surveyor would call at this Office when next in the district.
Wharfhouse at Wallbridge
The Clerk reported that a new pedestal had been fixed in the lavatory.
Cheltenham Bill Posting Coy, Rent
The Chairman read a letter from the Bill Posting Company of the 17^th June. The Committee agreed that in view of the existing circumstances the Navigation is prepared to accept the nominal rent of £1..- per annum as from the 31^st October 1942 otherwise the terms of the Agreement of November 17^th 1926 to stand.
Dudbridge Canal Wharf, Messrs Jackson's Tenancy
Reported that Messrs Jackson's had paid their last half years rent to the 24^th January 1943.
Canal at Dudbridge, Lockkeeper
Reported that Lockkeeper F Bassett had left the lockhouse and also his employment under the Company. H S Wiggall had been appointed to the position and he had agreed to carry out the duties for the free occupation of the lockhouse.
Water Charges
The various charges for water pipes to the Canal were discussed.
Canal at Dudbridge, Lockhouse, Repairs
Reported that the Chimneys needed attention and the wall of the back yard required slight repair. Lockkeeper Wiggall had asked for a separate W C for the Lockhouse. The Clerk was instructed to obtain estimates for the repair of the chimneys and for the provision of a WC.
Weeds in the Canal at Newtown
The Gloucester Rural District Council's Inspector had complained about the smell arising from the Canal at Newtown owing to weed in the waterway as a public nuisance. He had suggested that the Company get in touch with the County Analyst about the use of a chemical for the destruction of the weed. M^r Ellis had been written to about this, his reply thereto asking for a sample of the weed was read.
