Summary

Ministry of War Transport did not object to use of Junction Lock as dry dock. Letters sent to Mainteance Command of RAF and Sharpness Docks Co.
Mr Bennett of Whiteshill granted permission to put a small canoe on the canal on payment of 25s p.a. license fee, not to include the use of locks and no swing bridges to be opened.

[1944 April] Committee Meeting held at Wallbridge on Wednesday the 19^th day of April 1944 @ 3 o'clock pm
Present: W R Bloxam, G W Morton Ball, Henry R Hooper, R J C Little, G A Evans.
The Minutes of the last Meeting were read and confirmed.
Stroud Electric Supply C^oy Ltd, Cable at Downfield
The Chairman read a letter from the Supply Company dated 18^th March las stating that they had now received definite instructions to proceed with the laying of the cable, and would be obliged if the Navigation would proceed with the draft Agreement in accordance with the Navigations letter of the 16^th February last. They noted that the Navigation was not prepared to reduce the Wayleave fee of £2..0..0. The draft Agreement had been prepared and handed to M^r Brown, their Engineer at his Office on the 29^th March last, M^r Brown stated that the matter would have to stand over for the present as there was difficulty in getting the necessary materials for carrying out the work. He would let the Navigation know about this later.
Junction Lock at Saul, Proposal of the RAF Andover to make the Junction Lock into a Dry Dock
The Chairman read letters he had settled for the Clerk to send to the RAF, Sharpness New Docks Company, and the Ministry of War Transport, and the respective replies thereto. It was noted that the Ministry of War Transport had not objections to the Navigation affording the facility to the Maintenance Command of the RAF. A drawing received from the Command was discussed. M^r Ball stated that he had seen the drawing at the Canal Offices on the 14^th April last, and in the absence of the Chairman, through illness, had settled letters for the Clerk to send to the Command, and to the Sharpness Docks Company, The Chairman read the letters referred to. There was nothing further to report.
Easington Wharf Gates, Damage, M^R C Beresford
The Chairman stated that the Company's Solicitors had written to M^r Beresford.
Canoe on Canal, M^r P Bennett of Whiteshill
The Clerk was directed to inform M^r Bennett that the Committee would grant him permission to place a small canoe on the waterway of the Canal on payment of the usual 24^s/- licence a year payable in advance not to include the use of any lock and swing bridges not to be opened.
County Council
The Clerk reported an interview with the representatives of the Town Planning Department of the Gloucestershire County Council and information he had given him as to the size of the smallest lock.
