Summary

Clerk reported that the United States Army denied responsibility for the damage to the wall at Eastington. An estimate of £9 5s from Mr Hopson had been sent, marked ‘without prejudice’.

[1944 Sept] Committee Meeting held at Wallbridge on Wednesday the 20^th day of September 1944 @ 3 o'clock pm
Present: W R Bloxam, Henry R Hooper, G W Morton Ball, R J C Little,.
There being only four Members of the Committee present there was no quorum but there being some matters requiring immediate attention it was decided to proceed with them subject to confirmation by the next Committee.
Eastington Wharf Gates, Damage, M^r C Beresford
There was nothing to report.
Messrs Marling & Evans, re water pipe across the Canal next Ebley Mills
The draft Agreement had been sent to Messrs Marling & Evans for approval.
Stroud & District Town Planning Committee, Canal
A letter was read from the Planning Committee. After discussion the Chairman undertook to write to the Secretary of the Planning Committee suggesting an interview.
Ebley Pound & Ebley Mills Pond
There was nothing to report.
Ryeford Saw Mills Coy, re Pipe to Canal next Ebley Saw Mills
The Ebley Saw Mills Company had written asking the Navigation to cancell the proposed suggestion. A draft Agreement had been prepared and the Committee directed that the Saw Mills Company be asked to pay the costs of same.
Culvert at Whitminster, Sharpness New Docks Coy Account
With reference to the £25..15..3 account sent in by the Dock Company for clearing the Culvert the Committee authorized payment of same and a Cheque was drawn and signed accordingly.
Eastington Lockhouse, Garden Wall damages by United States Army Lorry
In accordance with Minute of last Meeting the Clerk had got in touch with the United States Officials who had disclaimed any liability but stated they would investigate the matter and write the Company further. In the meantime they would be glad to have builders estimated cost of repairing the damage done to the wall in question. A letter had been sent to them, marked "without prejudice" enclosing therewith M^r Hopson's estimate of £9..5..0 and suggesting an appointment to meet on the site or at the Wallbridge Office. There had been no reply so far.
Wallbridge Office, Outbuildings etc
The Chairman and M^r Morton Ball inspected the outbuildings attached to the premises of the Wallbridge Office. The Clerk was directed to have the garden door painted and the front door of the Office varnished.
