Summary

Job Guy servant of Company more than 20 years, deceased. £5 to widow for funeral expenses. Widow and son 5s per week for looking after wharf and water from his death, 27 May, until next Committee meeting.
Mr Charles Harrison applied for residue of garden near Anchor Inn on south side of brook, as a wharf. Mr Cosham and Mr Joseph Fisher to arrange setting up requisite walls, bridge or other fences.
Injury to lock by bargemen of Mr Mason; opinion of Counsel to be sought as to liability to pay for injury.
Mr Basham spent £17 4s 4d in removing moving mud from Framilode basin. £18 instead of £15 for his expenses.
Suggested that in future locks on canal should be opened by Company’s own servants for passage of vessels. Subcommittee to consider same.
Mr Southern declined to sell crane. Mr Holbrow to report on possible purchase.
Mr George to purchase oak timber for lock gate.

At a Meeting of the Committee of the Stroudwater Navigation held at the Committee Room at Walbridge on Tuesday the 7^th day of June 1836
Present: M^r Cosham, M^r T C Croome, M^r Sam^l Fisher, M^r Holbrow, M^r P H Fisher, M^r Wyatt, D^r Darke, M^r Jos^h Fisher.
Examined the Books and Accounts of the Company.
Job Guy, Lockkeeper at Dudbridge, having deceased, and having been a faithful Servant of this Company for more than 20 years - Ordered that the Sum of Five Pound be allowed to his Widow for his funeral expenses, and that our Clerk do pay her that Sum accordingly.
That his widow and Son be allowed 5^s/- per Week, jointly, for looking after the Wharf and water in like manner as the said Job Guy did, from his death (the 21^st May last) until the next Committee Meeting, the same to be paid _when & if_ they quit the house occupied by them at the request of this Committee.
M^r Charles Harrison having applied for the Residue of the Garden near the Anchor Inn on the south side of the Brook there, as a Wharf: Odered that M^r Cosham and M^r Joseph Fisher be a Sub-Committee to meet him, and arrange the terms of letting the same to him for that purpose, and of the setting up the requisite walls bridge or other fences thereon.
Ordered that when our Solicitors have obtained the requisite Evidence as to the injury done to the Lock by the Bargeman of M^r Mason as mentioned in the minutes of the Committee last General Meeting - they do take the opinion of Counsel as to the liability of Mess^rs Mason & Company - to pay for the injury so done.
M^r Basham having represented that he had expended £17.4.4 in removing the Mud from the Framilode basin mentioned in the Minutes of the last Committee meeting (being an excess above the Sum at which he offered to do the same) -
Ordered that he be allowed the Sum of Eighteen pounds (instead of the Sum of £15) for his said expenses, overlooking the Work and the use of Implements, etc.
It having been suggested tat it would be desirable that in future, the Locks on our Canal should be opened by our own Servants for the passage of Vessels:-
Ordered that the following Gentlemen (Mess^rs T C Croome, Cosham, Jos Fihser, Wood & Wyatt) be appointed a Sub-committee to consider the same and report to the Committee thereon, & on the manner in which the same can be effected, most economicatlly; taking into consideration the number, situation & duties of the servants of this Company already employed as Lockkeepers, Wharfkeepers & superintendents of Water, or otherwise on the line of the Canal, and also to report their opinion as to any improvements which they deem desirable to be made in the general management of the Canal as at present conducted.
M^r Holbrow having reported that M^r Southern had declined to sell the Crane referred to in the Minutes of the last Committee - Ordered the purchase of a Crane be deferred until M^r Holbrow shall report thereon.
Ordered that M^r George do furnish Oak Timber for making the Lock Gate alluded to in the Minutes of last Committee, agreeable to his Estimate now produced by M^r Hawker, viz:
A piece 12 feet long 16^in x 14^in at 7^s 5^d per foot running Measure.
