Bosley’s complaint against Mr Purcell allowing a stone barge to enter canal before the packet of Bosley on 28 October last. John Knight, owner, present when Purcell’s explanation appeared to fully justify him.
Dock gate to be repaired.
Quick to be planted and fenced near Blunder lock. Piling to be done there.
William Hairs [Ayers], lock keeper at Five Locks, to be dismissed.

Read the Report of Burbidge our Inspector from Sept. 19 1836 to December 14^th ~~ and with respect to Bosley's Complaint against M^r Purcell respecting his suffering a Stone Barge to enter the Canal before the Packet (Bosley) under date 28^th October last - M^r Hawker reported that he had examined Purcell thereon (John Knight, owner, being present) when Purcell's explanation appeared fully to justify him, as confirmed by Knight. With respect to the Report as to the state of the Dock Gate -
Ordered that the same be repaired & sufficient Timber be provided for that purpose: - That Quick be planted & fenced near the Blunder Lock: & the piling be done at the same place.
Ordered That William Hairs [Ayres], Lockkeeper at the 5 Locks be dismissed from the service of the Navigation Company and Notice given to him to quit the House in which her resides as servant o fthe Company the 24^th instant.
