Summary

Thames and Severn Canal Co request that next stoppage be made in first week of May rather than Whitsuntide agreed. Notice to be given to Messrs T & S Marling to enable them to remove the bridge near Ebley Mill.
T & S Marling asked for leave to introduce a pipe into the canal to supply a pump in their new weaving shops. Refused.
Mr N S Marling agreed to become tenant of land near the Ryeford, at 2s 6d per annum, lately occupied by Messrs C Stevens as a coal wharf.
Messrs Smith & Gyde, tenant of dye houses at Stanley Mill need to land coals free of wharfage. To have land between Mr Marling’s wharf and the road. Small annual rent and expense of making it into wharf.
Three wagon loads of beech or larch poles to be bought for piling.
Present lime kiln to be moved to dock yard at Chippenham Platt.
Barge load of Aberthaw pebbles for burning into lime to be bought.
New parapet wall and coping to be put on Westfield Bridge.
200 feet of elm timber to be bought. Lower bars of lower lock gates of elm instead of oak.
4000 Shropshire bricks and 3000 Frampton bricks to be bought.
Timber for new ice boat to be procured.
Bridge above the Bristol Road might be dispensed with Mr Bengough’s consent.
Embankments near Lockham Bridge separating towing paths from adjoining meadows to be raised to prevent land flood flowing into canal.
Mr Mason to look out site for a house for a clerk near Junction with G&B Canal.
John Burbidge to be clerk at Framilode. Salary £60 per annum. Person to be employed in Burbidge’s place as lock keeper in Double Locks, a mason by trade, and to be employed as a mason in his spare time.

At a Meeting of the Committee of the Stroudwater Navigation held at the Committee Room at Walbridge on Friday the 19^th day of February 1841
Present: M^r Cosham, M^r P H Fisher, M^r Sam^l Fisher, M^r Hughes, M^r Jos^h Fisher, M^r H Beard,
Ordered that the following Bill be paid, Viz:

Examined the Books & Accounts of the Company. ~~ The Thames & Severn Canal Navigation having requested that the usual annual Stoppage might take place on & from the first Monday in the Month of May next instead of the usual period at Whitsuntide, Ordered that the same be agreed to & that an intimation of such arrangement be given to Mess^rs T & S Marling to tenable them to remove the Bridge near their Mill at Ebley ~~
A Letter was read from T & S Marling asking for leave to introduce a pipe into the Canal for the purpose of supplying a Pump in their new weaving Shop: it was the opinion of the Committee that such request could not be acceded to; that M^r Croome should convey this intimation to them.
A Letter from M^r N S Marling dated the 16^th Instant was read whereby He agreed to become Tenant of the Land near Ryeford at 2^s/6^d per Annum lately occupied by Mess^rs C Stephens & C^o as a Coal Wharf. Mr Mason having reported that Messrs Smith & Gyde, who are tenants of the dye houses at Stanley Mill, are anxious to be provided with accommodation to land their coals free of wharfage, ordered that they may have the land between Mr Marling’s wharf and the road on condition of paying a small annual rent and defraying the expence of making it into a wharf. ~~ M^r Mason having read a report of the state of the Canal in respect of Towing Paths, Bridges & Locks, etc, the same was approved of. Ordered that three Waggon Loads of Beech or Larch Poles be bought for the purpose of Pilng according to His suggestions.
That the Repairs of the towing path be made in future in the manner in which M^r Mason has pointed out.
[Lime Kiln removed] That the present Lime Kiln be removed to the Dock yard at Chippenham Platt' & that a Barge load of Aberthaw Pebbles be purchased for the purpose of burning into Lime when necessary. That new parapet Walls & Coping be put on the Westfield Bridge. That 200 feet of Elm Timber or more in the round be bought, & that the lower Bars of the Lower Lock Gates may be made of Elm instead of Oak. That 4000 Shropshire Bricks & (?) 3000 Frampton Bricks be bought. [Timber for a New Ice Boat] And that Timber be procured for making a New Ice Boat. ~~ It was suggested that the Bridge above Bristol Road might be dispensed with provided M^r Bengough's consent were obtained; And that M^r W^m Martin was requested to communicate with Him thereon.
[Towing path at Whitminster to be raised] Ordered that the embankments near Lockham Bridge separating the towing Paths from the adjoining Meadows be raised, with a view to prevent the Land Flood flowing into the Canal.
Ordered that it being considered desirable to erect a House for the Clerk near the Junction with the Gloster & Berkeley Canal, M^r Mason be requested to look out a good Site & that Steps be taken to secure the purchase thereof. [J Birbidge appointed] Ordered that John Burbage be appointed Clerk at Framiload in pursuance of the Resolution of the General Meeting in April last at a Salary of £60 per Annum, to commence from the 25^th Day of March next; on M^r Purcell's leaving that situation; on his giving security to the amount for £100 for the due performance of His Office & accounting for Monies received. ~~ Ordered that a Person be employed to supply Burbidge's Offices as Lockkeeper at the Double Locks who is a Mason by Trade; & that his spare time be employed as a Mason.
Ordered that the common Seal of the Company be affixed to a Petition against the proposed Scheme for the Severn Navigation; & that M^r Holbrow, M^r Wathen, M^r P H Fisher & M^R T Croome, be a sub Committee for the purpose of drawing up and preparing such Petition.
