Summary

Special General Meeting. Clerk who keeps books and accounts should reside at house at Wallbridge.
Mr Charles Hawker elected Clerk at salary of £80.
Resolution of 22 May 1840 that the clerk has Organ’s House be carried into effect. Until house can be put into repair Mr Mason is to have £10 a year in lieu of house.
£22 allowed for funeral expenses of late Mr Hawker.

At a Special General Meeting of the Proprietors of the Stroudwater Navigation held at the Committee Room Wallbridge on friday the 8th day of September 1843 in pursuance of the Resolution of August 25th
Present: M^r Eycott in the Chair, M^r Fisher, M^r Jos Fisher, M^r Fisher, M^R Beard, M^r Hughes, M^r N Wathen, M^r Geo Wathen, M^r Cosham, M^r Clutterbuck, M^r Watts, M^r John Stanton, M^r John Holbrow, M^r Richard Hawker, M^r Maring, M^r Wood, M^r Gurney, Miss Holbrow, M^r Frier.
Moved by M^r Gurney seconded by M^R Wood that it is necessary for the interest of the Proprietors that the Clerk who shall keep the books and accounts do reside at the House at Walbridge.
M^r Fisher moved and M^r Beard seconded an amendment that such sho' not be the case -- Amendment negated and original motion carried.
Resolved that M^r Charles Hawker be elected Clerk of the Canal Company at the Yearly salary of £80.
That his duties shall be put such as are stated in the Minutes of the Committee held this day and that he shall give such sureties as are therein mentioned and to be subject to the rules & regulations of he Committee from time to time.
That the resolution as Organs house which was made at the Meeting of the Committee held on the 22^nd day of May 1840 be carried into effect.
That until such house is so put into repair M^r Mason be allowed at the rate of £10 a year at least in lieu thereof.
That the sum of £22 be allowed out of the funds of the navigation for payment of the late Mr Hawkers funeral expenses.
That Mr Charles Hawker be desired to commence his duties as such Clerk tomorrow.
