At a Meeting of the Committee of the Stroudwater Navigation held at the Committee Room at Wallbridge on Wednesday the 20th day of February 1850
Present: M^r Hen^y SIkes, M^r T C Croome Chairman, J H Warman, G H A Beard, Will^m Fryer, Rich^d Martin, Fred^k Eycott, Cha^s Hooper.
M^r Hawker reported that since the last Committee Meeting the Property and Income Tax has been demanded and payment required before today and he had therefore paid it out of the Cash.
Resolved that such payment be adopted and approved.
George Edwards of Stroud in the County of Glocester Gentleman attended and made out his Claim to one Share N^o 173 of the Undertaking of the Stroudwater Navigation lately belonging to and now standing in the name of Frances Georgina Wyatt now the Wife of the said George Edwards in the Books of the Company of Proprietors of the Stroudwater Navigation by producing a certificated copy of the Registry of his Marriage to the said Frances Georgina Wyatt at Stroud on the 19th day of September 1848 and also producing the original Ticket of Title to the said Share and the Claim of the said George Edwards is hereby admitted accordingly.
Resolved that Mess^rs Martin & C^o be requested to supply to this Company the following quantity of Wine vizL
3 Don^n Sherry and 3 Doz^n Bucellas.
A letter was read from M^r S Nicholson on behalf of the Park End Coal Company asking for a Drawback on Coals landed at Brimscombe and forwarded thence by Railway.
It was resolved that M^r Hawker be instructed to reply to the letter informing M^r Nicholson of the terms on which the Drawback is now allowed and that the same Terms be offered to him as a final answer.
Resolved that the Well at M^r Hawker's be cleaned and the Pump repaired.
M^r Critchley attended and requested that Stabling be built at Dudbridge Wharf for the accommodation of four horses. Resolved that Estimates be procured for building such Stable.
It appears to this Committee that the Culvert under the Canal at Ebley is in such a delapidated state that the Waste of Water occasions thereby both to the Canal and the Brook alternately has been a source of much inconvenience and complaint and it seems that at no distant period it will be necessary to put in a state of repair the cost of which will be considerable. It has been suggested by M^r S S Marling the owner of the Stream whose property is affected by such Waste of water that if the Wear which feeds the Canal at that place was removed the necessity of repairing the Culvert may be dispensed with. And as M^r Marling has consented to such removal of the Wear to a place about midway between the present site and his Mill on the towing path side of the Canal if this Company think it expedient to do so it is unanimously
Resolved that a new Wear be build at the place suggested it manifestly appearing that such an arrangement will save a considerable outlay and be equally convenient to the Canal.
Ordered that the following Bills and Accounts be paid:
Cha^s Hawker 1 Quarters Salary: 25^£..-^s..-^d
H Mayo painting at Framilode: 5..7..7
