Summary

Mr Jas. Nurse proposed weighing bridge at Dudbridge be let to him at annual rent. Company to retain use of it. Payment to him for all other persons using it.

Mr Bucknall and Mr Hawkins applied for allowance of tonnage on coals intended to be given away to poor by Stroud Committee. Subscription equal to one half of tonnage to be made on coals taken from Dudbridge Wharf.

At a Meeting of the Committee of the Stroudwater Navigation held at the Committee Room at Wallbridge on Wednesday the 6^th day of January 1856
Present: M^r J H Warman, M^r W^m Fryer Chairman, F Eycott. H Harris, C Hawker, C Hooper, G H A Beard, T C Croome, Rich^d Harris.
M^r Ja^s Nurse attended & proposed that the Weighing Bridge at Dudbridge should be let to him at an annual rent & on condition of the Company retaining the use of it for its own purposes, he receiving payment from all other persons using it. Ordered that the proposal be taken into consideration at the next monthly Meeting of the Committee & that in the mean time enquiry be made into the use of the Wharf at Dudbridge & other matters connected therewith.
M^r Nurse also stated that the pen on Wallbridge Wharf used by M^r Fluck wanted repair. Ordered that such repairs be immediately effected.
Ordered that in future a drawback be allowed from the Tonnage on all Coal landed at Dudbridge & from thence to all intermediate places up to Wallbridge so as to reduce the same to one uniform rate of 1^s/6^d per ton.
Ordered that the Bridge at Framilode be repaired.
Ordered that application be made to M^r George to remove from the Wharf at Stonehouse the various goods & articles which are not placed in the pen made for him.
M^r Driver reported that George Nurses Boat (the Fanny) has injured one of the five Locks through carelessness. Ordered that application be made to him for the expence of the repair.
It appears that M^r George has not settled his accounts for half a year. Ordered that M^r Partridge make an application to him for immediate settlement & report the result to the next Meeting.
Application was made by M^r Bucknall & M^r Hawkins for an allowance of the Tonnage of Coals intended to be given away to the Poor by the Stroud Committee as has been done last year. The Committee did not feel justified in allowing the whole amount of Tonnage & it was Ordered that a subscription equal to one half the Tonnage (on the same conditions as last year) be made on all Coals taken from Wallbridge Wharf.
