1906 March] Committee Meeting held at Wallbridge on Wednesday the 21^st day of March 1906 @ 4.15 pm
Present: Mr C H Hooper Chairman, Mr P J Evans, Mr E P Little, Mr F A Little, Sir W H Marling Bart, Mr W Davies, Mr Whittingham, Solicitor in attendance.
[Towing Path 'Stonehouse'] Sir W H Marling and Mr E P Little reported to the Committee that a representation having been made by the Stonehouse Parish Council, to the Stroud Rural District Council (of which they re members) as to the claim of the Parish to the public use of the towing path, Eastward from the Swing Bridge at Stonehouse Upper Mills, towards the Footbridge in the meadow leading to King Stanley (recently repaired by the Parish Council) the Rural District Council after hearing their views, decided to take no action in furtherance of such claim. (This is the same question that was raised by Mr Sibly in 1901).
[Mr A E Palmer Stoppage of Towing path Eastington] The Clerk submitted to the Committee the further correspondence which had taken place between himself and Mr Albert E Palmer of Tuffley Gloucester, in reference to his challenge of the stoppage of the towpath at the side of his father's house at the Bridge Eastington. As his father informed the Clerk he did not claim any right of way there, and Mr Palmer Junr added an apology for the course he took when the towpaths were closed to the public the incident was recognized as ended.
['Ship Inn'] Mr Whittingham submitted his view in writing, as requested at the last meeting of the Committee, on the subject of the renewal of the Lease of the Ship Inn, which Messrs Smith & Son of the Brimscombe Brewery had desired, and the Committee after due consideration, decided to accept the alternative of a renewal for 14 years at the same Rent as at present viz £40..- p annum.
It was arranged to suggest an appointment to Mr Smith to meet Mr Whittingham at the Canal Office and settle details.
[Stroud RDC use of towing path Ebley] The proposal to ask the Stroud Rural District Council for a small acknowledgement of their use of the towing path to reach their new Sewage Works was dropped, as they had formally recognised the Company's right there, on the occasion of the recent general stoppage of the paths.
[Stonehouse Court Estate] The Clerk produced a plan of 'Stonehouse Court Estate', which is shortly to be offered for sale, showing a part of the Canal Company's property inadvertently included. He was directed to see the Solicitors for the Vendors (Mr F Winterbotham and point this out.
[Income Tax] The Chairman submitted a statement showing the method of the 'Surveyor', in calculating the Income Tax annually payable by the Company, which was considered quite satisfactory.
[Canal Association] Minutes of the Canal Association in reference to the proceedings of the recently appointed 'Royal Commission on Canal', and other matters, were read by the Chairman.
[Meetings] Ordered that the next Committee Meeting be held on Wednesday the 25^th day of April 1906 @ 4.15pm and the Half-Yearly Meeting on the same day at 4.45pm.
[Stores] The Clerk submitted a 'List of Stores' as on March 31^st signed by him - the total value amounting to £124..19..4.
