_Memorandum_
{No Quorum] Only three members of the Committee being present besides the Chairman (Mr Hooper) viz: Sir W H Marling Bart, Messrs A J M Ball & S S Marling, there was no quorum, but there being some matters requiring present attention, it was decided to proceed with them, subject to confirmation by the next Committee, viz:-
[Nat Tel Co Wires to Saul] 1 The Agreement with the National Telephone Coy as to the erection of their wires to Saul, having been passed by the Solicitors of the Company, was ordered to be sealed. Mr Snape reported that he had been with the National Telephone Company agent Mr Hedgetts and viewed each post, of which he produced a record in Mr Hedgetts writing.
[Mr Tyler of Cheltenham re premises at Dudbridge] 2 Mr F Tyler of Cheltenham who had been in negociation for the void premises at Dudbridge Wharf, having been unwilling for the terms drawn up by the Company's Solicitors, had decided to decline them, and the matter was ended, unless he should re-open it.
[Workmens Insurance] 3 The matter of 'Workmens Insurance', in view of the new Act coming into force July 1. was considered, and Mr Stanley Marling kindly placed certain information of Messrs Marling & Cos at the disposal of the Company. It was left with the Chairman and Mr Snape to see the Insurance secured on best terms by end of the month.
[C D H Deane (Ryeford Cottages) riding cycle on towpath at Ryeford] 4 A letter from a young man (Chas D H Deane) to the Clerk, with reference to his being stopped by one of the servants of the Company, when riding his cycle on the towpath at Ryeford was read. Mr Snape was requested to try and see him _personally_, and explain the rule forbidding _cycles_ on the towpath to which the Company cannot make exceptions.
[Canal Inspection] 5 The Annual Canal Inspection, due in July, was undertaken as to the large portion by Mr S S Marling, who proposed to fix a date in the first week of the ensuing month, and learn the convenience of another member of Committee to join him with Mr Snape.
[Wood & Son permission to erect hoarding near (Ship Inn) Wharf (?) Garden Wallbridge] 6 The Clerk mentioned an application by Mr Wood of Stroud to erect a 'hoarding for Bill posting' on the boundary of the Company's premises at Wallbridge, and his offer to rent same at £5 per annum. It was left to the Chairman and Mr Snape to view the spot and they concluded that such an erection would be by no means desirable. The Chairman instructed Mr Snape to let Mr Wood know it would not be entertained.
[Ditch at Newtown] 7 A communication from the Wheatenhurst District Council as to a nuisance in the Company's ditch between the Canal and the main road at 'Newtown', Eastington, was produced by the Clerk. It was placed in the hands of the Company's Solicitors, and the members undertaking the ensuing survey would inspect the place.
