The Chairman read a letter from the Planning Committee respecting the condition of the Canal. The Committee directed that a letter be written to the Planning Committee that the Navigation is doing all it can under the present adverse circumstances to keep the Canal in reasonable repair, if there is any particular feature needing attention perhaps they would point this out.
Water Supply
The Clerk reported there had been difficulty in maintaining a level in the Ebley Pound. It appears that boards had been removed from the Permanent Weir in the Mill Pond, reducing the level of the Mill Pond to below the level of the intake to the Canal from the Pond. It was understood that Messrs Marling & Evans, the Mill Owners did not now use the water from the Mill Pond, and that they would have no objection, provided their rights were respected, to the Navigation adjusting the height of their Weir, by replacing the board thereon, and to manipulating them to regulate the amount of water in Ebley Pound. The Clerk was authorised to obtain planks necessary, and to have the work carried out. M^r Morton Ball would inspect the place. The Chairman undertook to settle a letter for the Clerk to send to Messrys Marling & Evans.
Telephone at Lockhouse at Dudbridge
The Clerk was instructed to enquire of the Post Office Telephone Department whether a telephone connection could be installed at the Lockhouse at Dudbridge and what the annual charges would be.
Ordered that the next Meeting of the Committee be held at Wallbridge on Wednesday the 26^th day of July 1944 @ 3 o'clock pm and the General Half Yearly Meeting @ 3.30 o'clock pm on same day.
