Summary

Comparison of lading of vessels called Worcesters. Gauging stick provided erroneous result, 2 tons in 30 less than actual lading. Proper and correct gauging stick to be procured or made.
On all coal delivered below Radcot Bridge on River Thames, or at or beyond Swindon on Wilts & Berks Canal, drawback allowed of 4d per ton on present tonnage of 1s. On all salt delivered at or beyond Newbridge on Thames, beyond Swindon Wharf on Wilts & Berks Canal 4d per ton, present 1s per ton. On manure salt to have drawback to be 6d per ton to these locations.
All slates delivered at Cirencester or beyond 4d per ton on 1s provided Thames & Severn Canal Co lower rates to 2d per ton per mile.
All grain brought from beyond junction of G&B Canal to at or beyond Cirencester to have 4d per ton drawback on 1s.
Other goods with tonnage rate of 1s taken beyond eastern end of T&S Canal to have a 6d per ton drawback providing Thames & Severn Canal Co reduce their tonnage to 1½d per ton per mile. For goods with a tonnage rate of 8d the drawback will be 2d per ton.
William Clark to reside at the top lock at Five Locks as laborer at 13s per week. 1 guinea per annum as lock keeper.
William Daniels and his son to be laborers for 22s per week for both.
Crane at Dudbridge again failed to be repaired. Mr Mason repair, calling in assistance of some engineer.

At a Special Meeting of the Committee of the Stroudwater Navigation held at the Committee Room at Walbridge on Friday the 2^nd September 1842
Present: Rob^t Huges Esq^r in the Chair, M^r Cosham, M^r Martin, M^r Sam^l Fisher, M^r Wathen, M^r Holbrow, M^r Croome, M^r Wyatt, M^r Beard, M^r J Fisher, M^r Stanton.

On a comparison of the lading of the Vessels called Worsters as stated in their Bill of Lading, and as ascertained by the Gauging Stick at present used by this Compnay, it appears that the Gauging Stick furnished an erroneous result - the same being about two tons in thirty _Less_ that the actual Lading:-
Ordered that a proper and correct gauging Stick be procured or made.
On the report of the sub Committee, as to their interview with M^r Denyer, on the subject referred to them by the minutes of the last Committee, Ordered that it be recommended to the next General half Yearly Meeting that all Coal delivered below Radcot Bridge on the River Thanes, or at or beyond Even Swindon on the Wilts & Berks Canal, there be allowed a Drawback of fourpence per Ton on the present Tonnage of one Shilling, that upon all Salt delivered at or beyond Newbridge on the Thames, or beyond Swindon Wharf on the Wilts & Berks Canal, there be allowed a drawback of 4^d per Ton, on the present Tonnage of 1^s per Ton. That upon Manure Salt delivered to any place beyond the limits prescribed by the Act for charging Tonnage for the same, there be allowed a drawback of 6^d per Ton on the present Tonnage of 1^s/- That upon all Slates delivered at Cirencster or at any Place beyond, there be allowed a drawback of 4^d per Ton on the present Tonnage of One Shilling, provided the Thames & Severn Canal Company lower their rated to be 2^d per Ton per mile. That upon all Grain brought from or beyond the Junction of the Closter & Berkeley Canal with their Navigation & delivered at or beyond Cirencester there be allowed a drawback of 4^d per Ton on the present Tonnage of 1^s/ per Ton. That upon all articles now Chargable with Tonnage rates of One Shilling per Ton which shall be brought from any place beyond the _Eastern End_ of the Thames & Severn Canal Tunnel (in Vessels whose preceding Cargo in their up Voyage passed through this Navigation) and shall be delivered at or beyond the Junction aforesaid, there be allowed a drawback o f6^d per Ton; provided the Thames & Severn Canal Company reduce their Tonnages for the same article to 1^d½ per Ton per Mile. That upon all articles now chargeable with a Tonnage Rate of 8^d per Ton under similar circumstances, a drawback shall be allowed of 2^d per Ton under the same provision.
Resolved that it be considered open to the Committee at any time prior to the next General Meeting to reconsider the foregoing & to propose any augmented drawbacks, in case it shall appear to them desirable so to do; and also to adopt the drawbacks from the time the Thames & Severn Canal Company shall have reduced their Tonnage as proposed on their part, without waiting for our next General Meeting & that a Committee Meeting must be called for Thursday the 29^th of September instant on that subject.
Ordered that M^R Mason be authorized to engage Will^m Clarke to reside at the top Lock of the 5 Locks as a Labourer at the wages of 13^s/ per Week & further allowance of One Guinea per Annum as Lockkeeper & to engage Will^m Daniel & His Son as Labourers at 22^s per Week for _both_ of them.
Ordered that the Crane at Dudbridge which has again failed be repaired in the best manner M^r Mason can devise; calling in the assistance of some Engineer if he thinks proper.
