Summary

Re Swing bridge near Messrs Charles Hooper & Sons Ltd’s mills at Eastington, Clerk to draft letter to explain to them extent of Company’s liability to repair bridges, state position more fully and mention that present condition of bridge contributed to, if not caused, by extra weight of vehicles using it during recent years.
Clerk reported that:
Cost of oak, pitch pine and other material for renewal of present bridge about £176 2s.
Messrs King & Co of Nailsworth estimate for iron bridge £100. Canal Company to provide wood decking, say £40, labour say £40. Total £180. If necessary to renew pivot or the collar bearing of the pivot, any repairs to be on a basis of 10% on shop cost.
Messrs Hook & Son of Ebley estimate for iron bridge £250, not including pivot or any work in connection with it, excepting bolting on to bridge.
Mr Hopson’s estimates cost of taking down present bridge and erecting a new one complete £290 to £300.
Letter from Mrs Penn, tenant of premises on wharf at Stonehouse asking Company to convert stable into garage. Estimate from Mr Hopson £18 10s. Clerk to see Mrs Penn. Company to undertake work for £2 10s a year extra rent.

[1922 April] Committee Meeting held at Wallbridge on Wednesday the 26^th day of April 1922 @ 3.20 o'clock pm

Swing Bridge near Messrs C^has Hooper & Sons Ltd Mills at Eastington:_
In accordance with the Minutes of the last Meeting the Clerk had written to Messrs Chas Hooper & Sons Ltd, to which they had replied. After discussion it was decided to write them further and Mr Bloxam was asked to draft a letter for the Clerk to explain to Messrs C^has Hooper & Sons the extent of the Company's liability to repair bridges and state the position more fully and mention that the present condition of the bridge has been at the least contributed to if not caused by the extra weight of vehicles using it during recent years.
The Clerk reported that:-
1 The Oak, pitch pine and other material for the renewal of the present bridge would cost about £176..-.
2 Messrs King & C^o of Nailsworth estimate for an iron bridge £100,,- - the Canal Company to provide the wood decking - say £40 - and labour - say £40 - making a total of £180..- - it found necessary to renew the pivot of the Collar bearing of the pivot, any repairs to same to be on the basis of 10% on shop cost.
3 Messrs Hook & Son of Ebley Estimate for an iron bridge £250 no including pivot or any work in connection with it, excepting bolting on to bridge.
4 Mr S Hopson Estimate for cost of taking down present bridge and erecting a new one complete, would amount to £290 to £300.
5 A letter form Mrs Penn tenant of premises on the Wharf at Stonehouse asking the Company to convert the Stable there into a garage. An Estimate had been obtained from Mr Hopson, which shewed the cost of the work for necessary alterations to Stable would amount to £18..10..0. The Clerk was directed to see Mrs Penn and if she would agree to pay £2..10..0 a year extra rent the Committee would undertake the work.
In the absence of the Chairman the report of the Sub-Committee was left over.
The Tonnage to date was shown to amount to £428..15..9 as compared with £560..16..9 last year and £365..11..8 in 1914.
Credit Balance at Bank was £344..13..1 against £395..6..0 in 1921 and £444..17..8 in 1914.
