At a Special Meeting of the Committee of the Stroudwater Navigation held at the Committee Room at Wallbridge on Monday March 10th 1845
Present: M^r Gurney, W^m J Wood, Jn^o Stanton, Dan^l Watts, W^m Fryer Chairman, G H A Beard, Jn^o Holbrow, Rich^d Martin, Fred Eycott.
A Letter having been read from M^r Helps asking this Company to subscribe £100 towards a fund to oppose the South Wales Railway,
It was proposed by M^r Wood and seconded by M^r Stanton that M^R Gurney be requested to write an answer to M^r Helps declining to accede to his request.
M^r Martin proposed and M^r Holbrow seconded that the consideration of the matter be deferred to next Monday.
The amendment made by M^r Martin was carried by a majority of 6 to 3.
Ordered that the Petition now read relating to the comparative charges on Passengers and Goods on Railways be forwarded through M^r Rich^d Hawker to the Duke of Beaufort and Sir W B Codrington for presentation to the Houses of Lords and Commons respectively.
