Facilities available for your Motor Boats, Framilode Canal Basin, silted up, 18" draft. No objection to Gib crane if there is room and no damage. Three men to control lock and water flow. You take all risks with boats. Charge suggested 10s per boat."
Canal bridge at Gas Works closed for repairs 1 pm Saturday 10 October until 5 pm Wednesday 14 October 1936, or for further time if required.
Cheque £4s 9d paid on 22 August to your account outstanding for June.
Re yours 14 September. Permission to use Canal at Junction. Fee 10s 6d per year in advance. No locks to be used.
28 July your lorry passed over Ocean Swing Bridge and damaged it. Public have no right over bridge. You are responsible. Cost of repair £17 7s 1d.
Re Bristol Road Wharf house. At present undecided what Committee will do with their premises.
Re Oil Mills Bridge at Ebley next Mr Smith's Corn Mills. Repairs to surface of road over bridge. Estimate for putting roof in order. Kindly let me have reply soon.
Re damage to Swing Bridge, Stonehouse. Letter 1 September. Compensation claimed from Mr Malpass. No liability or responsibility on his part. Employed by your Company. Instructed to use route. Your Company is responsible.
Yearly charge for a canoe on any one pound of canal 10s. For use of canal, no locks, £7 per year.
Re Wharf House, Whitminster. Matter to be considered at next Committee Meeting. What increased rent are you prepared to pay?
Committee accept your estimate of £3 18s re Oil Mills at Ebley, if you complete work by end of November.
Re letter 21 October. Company has no money to carry out work.
Re your letter 20 November re Wharfage at Wallbridge. Space at wharf not occupied. Further rent £10. Clear away goods by end December.
Warehouse and portion of wharf. How much do you want? What is your offer? Under what conditions would you rent wharf as a fairground? Meeting on spot, three days notice.
Re letter 29 April. For what purpose do you require copy of Balance Sheet? Usually supplied to members only.
Traffic in canal not sufficient to allow effective dredging or weeding. More and more difficult for barge to navigate waterway. Severn & Canal Carrying Co propose extensive dredging and weeding. Grant from Ministry of Transport. Useless without permanent increase of traffic. Difficult to repay loan. Would Ministry make grant and on what terms? Only traffic on upper part of canal tar barge calling at Stroud Gas Works. Owners want dredging done but expensive. Continued on 618.

Notice. Portion of canal from Westfield Lock, Eastington, to the Newtown Lock, Eastington, closed for repairs 6am Monday 19 July until 6pm Monday 26 July or until further notice.

Committee can only let you remainder of Dudbridge Wharf on condition that you do not sublet or cause annoyance or noise to neighbourhood. Agreement can be signed if you agree.

Receipt of your letter 30 August has been overlooked. At present no Lime or Basic Slag carried on Navigation. Toll would be as for coal etc. See Canal Rates, Tolls & Charges Order Confirmation Act 1893 &1894.
Re your letter 4 September. Charge on actual amount of coal carted to your boilers could involve unnecessary work. If you let me know approximate amount, no difficulty in arranging quarterly payment for use of towing path.
Kindly obtain for me and charge to this account a copy of Transport Advisory Council's Report to Minister of Transport on Service and Rates, published 18 October, available from H M Stationery Office, 1s per copy.

Severn Fishery Board. Re your letter 30 October. Navigation not in financial position to carry out work you mention. Your Board can treat water where weeds interfere with fishing.
Re Accident to J W White, Company's lock keeper. John William White last Saturday cut his finger with a hatchet. Has seen his doctor, continued to work. I thought it wise to report matter to you.
General Half Yearly Meeting fixed for 26 January 1938.
Re your letter 29 November. Company is still acting. Shares last sold at 30s. Nominal only, no dividend paid since 1922, no prospect of future dividend.
Re your letter 7 January. A member of Committee can meet Mr Jackson on Dudbridge Canal Wharf, Wednesday 12 January, about 3 pm.

Messrs J & H B Jackson Ltd, Conduit Yard, Fleet Street, Coventry intend to lease premises from Company, annual rent £45. Your firm named as a reference. Kindly inform me whether firm will prove satisfactory tenants.
My Committee not disposed to consider sale of any part of Dudbridge Wharf.
Re Demand Note 198. Land sold to Messrs Strachan & Co, Lodgemore Mills, Stroud. Kindly let me have a fresh Demand for a proportion of the rate payable to end December 1937.
Re letter 15 December. Rent already reduced to £10. Committee cannot allow more than £2 10s as in 1931-35.
Roving Bridge: pipe. Committee agree. Rental £2 per annum.
Committee accept your tender 9 February. Scrap to be weighed on public weighbridge, purchaser paying weight charges. Invoice rendered, for cash, on receipt of weight tickets. Let me know date and time so I can be on spot.
Committee unable to accept your tenders for scrap.
Yesterday your lorry driver, L Mastin, damaged entrance gates at Dudbridge. Company holds you responsible. Gates closed at night. Necessary repairs being carried out. I will let you know cost.
Re telephone conversation this morning. I enclose letter sent to you.
Stroud Gas Co. Agreement re pipe at Roving Bridge, Newtown. Receipt of your letter re above, enclosing cheque for first year's rent. Receipt sent direct to Mr Payne.
Immediate repayment of £950 on deposit. I enclose receipt for No.5817 for £250 and No.5823 for £700, also Pass Books. I shall be glad to receive amount in due course.
Why has scrap at depot at Eastington not been removed? Kindly explain.
Marling deceased G4742/2.4. Re your letter 4 March. Only copies of auditors' half yearly accounts and balance sheets filed in Company's books. Company founded by Special Act of Parliament, 3. Geo 11 16 Geo 111 c.21, governed by Company of Proprietors. Capital 200 shares of £100 each. No dividend since 1922. Concern practically derelict.
Re my letter 5 March, re damage to gates at Dudbridge. Repairs to be carried out as soon as possible. Kindly remit £9 5s and return Mr Hopson's estimate.
Re letter 7 March. No charge would be made for water but any damage to bank or other property of Navigation to be paid for.
Re your letter 25 March, enclosing duplicate to Stroud Gas Co. 21 February 1938. Lease granted to Jackson & Co left with me, 16 March.

Marling deceased G4742/2.4. Re your letter 25 March. At Committee Meeting it was suggested that Mr S S Marling, Littlewood House, Amberley, near Stroud, brother of late Sir Percival Marling, member of Committee, might purchase shares.
Re your letter 4 April. Appointment of Mr Holder to office of late Mr Fredericks approved by Committee yesterday. Proportion of his salary payable by Company same, £32 10s per annum payable quarterly.
Re your letter 19 April. Committee agreed to accept £7 10s in settlement.Completed form enclosed.
Your letter re lock gates at Framilode is having my attention.

Re your letter 22 April. Charge for small pleasure boat for trip up canal is 15s return, 10s single, including use of locks. Passes from Clerk at Junction, Saul. Mr J H Smart, Chalford, Glos (Road Transport Haulier) will quote you for taking boat by road to Chalford and the Thames. The Thames & Severn Canal is closed to traffic.
Re use of crane at Dudbridge Wharf. Committee have no objection, provided you put crane in order and use it at your own risk.
