Sperry Gyroscope Co. Ltd. Mr King, Newmarket could see nothing wrong with bridge. He could not remove the blockhouse which prevented use of Swing Pole and bridge swinging down canal as designed. He suggested that a pole be fixed on opposite side, making bridge swing up canal. Things might be allowed to remain as at present. No trade passing over canal. Blockhouse partly on canal property. No rent paid. Now used by Admiralty for Police Guard. No action to be taken at present.

Lodgemore Culvert. Messrs Strachan, 15 August, warned Company that they would draw their Mill Pond at Lodgemore Mill and did so that night. Sluices against Painswick Stream failed to hold, water passed into Mill Pond from Canal through defective culvert under Canal. Level normal next day when sluices were lowered.

County Council Officials stated that Ministry of Transport was of the opinion that the Stroudwater Navigation should apply for abandonment. Area Catchment Board declined to concern themselves with Navigation’s Canal. Stroudwater Navigation would not object to construction of low level road bridges, if urgent, subject to provision for flow of water underneath the bridges. Necessary to ask County Council to discontinue emptying their water into the Stroudwater Canal. Since the abandonment of the Thames & Severn Canal there was no right to discharge the water.
